Crafty Publishing – Fiona Veitch Smith

New home for Young David Books

Fiona — Fri, 20 Mar 2015 11:42:37 +0000

I am delighted to announce that my Young David Books are now going to be published by SPCK Publishing. SPCK are one of the oldest publishing houses in the world with a track record in producing quality Christian books and resources. Illustrator Amy Warmington (nee Barnes) and I are looking forward to working with the team at SPCK to bring the Young David stories to a worldwide audience. We are sure that the young shepherd boy will be as delighted as we are. So you will no longer be able to order books directly from www.craftypublishing.com. However, they are still – and will continue to be – in bookshops in the UK and from April, will be available through SPCK. http://www.spck.org.uk/publishing/

Swanning around in Swanwick

Fiona — Fri, 06 Jun 2014 09:10:37 +0000

For the last three years I have had the honour of attending the Christian Resources Together Retreat in Swanwick. In previous years I have led seminars on behalf of the Association of Christian Writers. This year I had the privilege of being in a panel discussion ‘On the Sofa with Clem’ with authors Bob Hartman, Sheridan Voysey and Luke Wordsey as well as reps from the Bible Society and SPCK. I also was part of a panel with Speaking Volumes, a wonderful charity which I’m proud to support. Apart from that, my little publishing company Crafty Publishing had a stall to showcase our Young David Books and apps. I was accompanied by my beautiful assistant Rodney Smith who manfully manned the stall while I flitted around ‘networking’. Couldn’t do it without you babes! — at The Hayes Conference Centre Swanwick

Books are my Bag

Fiona — Tue, 10 Sep 2013 11:46:07 +0000

I will be attending a Books are My Bag party at Forum Bookshop in Corbridge this Saturday with fellow Crafty Publishing author Tony Glover. Drop by for coffee, cake and a chat. If you live too far, keep an eye open for a Books are My Bag party in your area and let’s keep paper books on shelves! Forum Books is where I bought my first book with my own pocket money when I was seven. It was a Nancy Drew.

Article in Newcastle Journal

Fiona — Tue, 27 Aug 2013 11:44:32 +0000

There was a lovely article about moi, my company Crafty Publishing and one of our authors, Tony Glover in last week’s Newcastle Journal. It was the lead article in the Culture Section. Those of you who know me well might notice though that it says I was a journalist in Cape Town in the early 90s when you all know I was a care-free student still at Rhodes at that time. My mistake, not the journalist who wrote the article – I wasn’t clear enough in the interview. Not surprisingly as I was rushing off to a book launch at the time. So for the record: I was a journalist in the late 90s. And my daughter was born in 2005 in England and didn’t travel with us from South Africa in 2002. Still a great article though! http://www.thejournal.co.uk/culture/crafty-idea-sees-north-east-5751799. Tony and I also had a brilliant time at the launch at the Literary and Philosophical Society of the print versions of The Peace Garden and Cars Just Want to Be Rust. Pic of us below in ‘serious author’ pose …

Signed copies of The Peace Garden available to buy!

Fiona — Tue, 16 Jul 2013 08:13:17 +0000

The official launch is still a few weeks away, but you are still able to buy The Peace Garden, my romantic thriller, for your summer holidays!

“Definitely not your run-of-the-mill romantic thriller. What starts off as an investigation into missing plants turns into an international thriller. I couldn’t put it down.” – Abidemi Sanusi, Commonwealth Writers’ Prize nominee.

You can order The Peace Garden through any bookshop or online retailer. Or, you can buy a signed copy through The Crafty Publishing shop. If you would like to have it signed to you or anyone else, please make a note of this in the comments section when you pay. Or drop us a line through the online contact form.

First copies of The Peace Garden arrive. Don’t you just love when your book covers match your cushion covers?

Book table at Heaton Festival

Fiona — Tue, 25 Jun 2013 10:33:59 +0000

Looking forward to this year’s Heaton Festival where Crafty Publishing will have a book table. We will be selling all of the Young David Books, including the latest, Lonely Prince, as well as hot-off-the press print copies of The Peace Garden, a literary thriller for grown ups. The Peace Garden has been doing very well as an e-book but due to popular demand Crafty Publishing are bringing out a print version. If you can’t get to the festival and still want a copy, you should be able to order through their website by next week. Watch this space!

I was part of the storytelling team at the last Heaton Festival, two years ago, and debuted the first in the Young David series, David and the Hairy Beast. Lots of fun
