Great Wall of China – Fiona’s first docu-podcast goes live on BBC Sounds

I am absolutely thrilled that my first documentary podcast for Noiser Podcasts is available from today on BBC Sounds. I researched and wrote it as well as interviewed the expert who you will hear in the show. I listened to the whole production for the first time today and am delighted at the job the production team and narrator have done. It’s about the Great Wall of China.

Sex, power & feminism – and mince pies – at Newcastle Noir

It was an honour to be invited to the 2023 Newcastle Noir crime writing festival held at Newcastle Central Library and hosted by the tireless Jacky Collins (Dr Noir) and her team. I was on an historical crime panel called ‘As Darkness Falls’ which discussed sex, power and feminism in historical crime novels. Hosted by Fiona Erskine (The Chemical Detective), we were joined by the gothic historical crime novelists Bridget Walsh (The Tumbling Girl) and Kate Griffin (Fynshade).

And then after that we all had Greggs mince pies! (You have to when you’re in Newcastle, don’t you? Well, I have to, as my husband, Rodney Smith, works at Greggs!). Happy Christmas to you all!

Christmas book sale

Give a signed copy of one of my adult or children’s books to your loved one this Christmas. For a limited period my adult novels will be selling at £7 each and children’s books £5 each, with £2 for postage in the UK (children’s books will be £2 postage for up to 2 books at a time). Foreign postage will be £7 for adult books and £5 for up to two children’s books. In addition, I have a small number of large print books for the visually impaired – The Jazz Files, The Kill Fee and The Death Beat (The Cairo Brief will be released in the New Year).
